As of Monday morning, the yard waste that caught on fire in Buckingham is contained, but part of it is still burning, and could have affects on you when you go outside.
WINK News spoke with the Tice Fire Department, and they said the smoke should start going away Monday afternoon.
On Sunday, multiple crews responded to a fire in the Buckingham area, and firefighters worked for hours to contain it.
Reports from as far away as Cape Coral say they can smell the lingering odor in the air.
Witnesses of the fire describe what it was like when it was in full force.
“You could see the smoke all the way from downtown on the other side of the river, and you know the color of it, it doesn’t match the clouds so it sticks out pretty good. The volume of it you could see it so clear from so far away,” said one Cape Coral resident.
Neighbors who live near where the fire broke out did not want to go on camera, but say this isn’t the first time a fire has broke out on that property.
WINK News is working with the fire department to find out what caused the fire.
The managers of the business where it began declined to speak to our reporters, but say the fire began in a pile of yard waste.
